Hi all Six tundra swans have been sighted in Sussex, NB. They were last seen flying NE towards the Northumberland Strait so who knows if they drop down anywhere in Nova Scotia. Keep your eyes peeled for them! Liz ........ Tundra Swans - Sussex, NB March 17 at 3:40 PM, they saw 6 TUNDRA SWANS (formerly known as Whistling Swan) in flight at Sussex. Doug/ Shirley Gibson of Fredericton described the observation thus: we have a rare sighting for you. Six Whistling Swans. No black, all white, long necks, very large. Sighting @ 3:40 PM, March 17th., Sussex. And we are very familiar with the Lesser Snow Geese of the southern St.Lawrence, so there is no confusion there. Sorry, no pictures. We were just out for a first-of-the season walk along the Sussex Nature Trail... Specifically we saw them from that major clearing south of Turnmill Lane. One swan ahead of the flock of five by about twenty yards or so. All flying due north before swinging to the north-east. Hard to judge altitude, but probably about 300 feet up. The sky was perfectly clear and a picture would have been a prize, but they were moving at speed, so I doubt that by the time we got the camera unlimbered, we would have had anything worthwhile. In a word, however, they were spectacular. It's hard to say where these swans might be now. They might have stopped to feed in stubble fields in the Sussex area, but perhaps more likely continued their flight towards the Northumberland Strait - Gulf of St. Lawrence coast and might be anywhere in northern or eastern New Brunswick, or P.E.I., by now. Keep a sharp lookout for them. David Christie Mary's Point, Harvey, Albert Co., New Brunswick
