This is downright scary, I would say -- I'm thinking, of course,
about the white-nose disease and what it does to bats in winter in
the hibernacula -- the fungus, Geomyces destructans, wakes the bats
up and causes them to forage in mid-winter, a huge waste of stored
energy needed for later in the year. Could there be a hibernaculum
close to Kentville? There certainly are steep ravines and cliffs
along rivers and streams in the area.

I might have seen a flying bat along Belcher St. west of Port
Williams just a week ago or so, but I was unsure -- I turned around
and drove back there, but saw nothing.

In "normal" years weather-wise, I always think of early April for the
earliest reports of flying bats in eastern King's County.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
