I've posted (on my website) a photo rendition of Jupiter and Venus as =
viewed evening of March 12, =
http://web.mac.com/sherm39/Site_2/Home_Site.html The view is from =
Horton Bluff (Avonport), taken beside the lighthouse. Click on the lead =
photo for a larger version. My equipment was a SONY-H7, point and =
shoot digital on a tripod. This particular rendition is from a photo I =
exposed for 3 second at f5.6, ISO set at 400, time 23:08 UT (8:08 p.m.), =
March 12, 2012.
The sky was lovely and clear.

> Make sure you have a look early this evening to see Jupiter and Venus =
side by side in conjunction, about 3 degrees apart in the western sky. =
Great naked-eye view (they will also fit in one binocular view). Venus =
is about 7 light-minutes away (would take a cell phone call about 7 =
minutes to reach Venus). Jupiter is about 46 light-minutes off. =20

> They are getting quite low to the horizon by 10:30 p.m. by then Mars =
is also very bright high in the SW (its light has a red-orange cast) and =
is about 5.6 light-minutes away.

> The Dog Star (Sirius), the bright star in the south (trailing Orion) =
is about 9 light-years away where the light from Orion's belt stars is =
about 1000 years old as it enters your eye-ball.

> Pleasant observing,
