Venus = is about 7 light-minutes away (would take a cell phone call about 7 = minutes to reach Venus). Jupiter is about 46 light-minutes off. =20 >=20 > They are getting quite low to the horizon by 10:30 p.m. by then Mars = is also very bright high in the SW (its light has a red-orange cast) and = is about 5.6 light-minutes away. >=20 > The Dog Star (Sirius), the bright star in the south (trailing Orion) = is about 9 light-years away where the light from Orion's belt stars is = about 1000 years old as it enters your eye-ball. >=20 > Pleasant observing, > Sherman --Apple-Mail-3--780554571 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii <html><head> <style><!-- .hmmessage P { margin:0px; padding:0px } body.hmmessage { font-size: 10pt; font-family:Tahoma } --></style></head><body style=3D"word-wrap: break-word; = -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "><div = dir=3D"ltr">I've posted (on my website) a photo rendition of = Jupiter and Venus as viewed evening of March 12, <a = href=3D"http://web.mac.com/sherm39/Site_2/Home_Site.html">http://web.mac.c= om/sherm39/Site_2/Home_Site.html</a> The view is from Horton = Bluff (Avonport), taken beside the lighthouse.
