Nice clear evening here in Avonport.

Make sure you have a look early this evening to see Jupiter and Venus =
side by side in conjunction, about 3 degrees apart in the western sky. =
Great naked-eye view (they will also fit in one binocular view). Venus =
is about 7 light-minutes away (would take a cell phone call about 7 =
minutes to reach Venus). Jupiter is about 46 light-minutes off. =20

They are getting quite low to the horizon by 10:30 p.m. by then Mars is =
also very bright high in the SW (its light has a red-orange cast) and is =
about 5.6 light-minutes away.

The Dog Star (Sirius), the bright star in the south (trailing Orion) is =
about 9 light-years away where the light from Orion's belt stars is =
about 1000 years old as it enters your eye-ball.

Pleasant observing,
Sherman=
