MAR. 12, 2012 - Another gorgeous Sunny and warm (13 C.) early Spring?
or late Winter? day.

I checked out 7 BALD EAGLE NEST SITES (of about 9 very locally )
today, and the first 4 of them were during the lunch hour while
listening to Maritime Noon: 3 of the nests had adults on them, and 2
or 3 were possibly incubating (or pseudo-incubating?), at Greenwich,
e. of Wolfville, and at Lower Canard.

I have mentioned before on NatureNS that, according to the Stokes'
series of three field guides to bird behavior, in early Spring bald
eagles engage in what is called "pseudo-incubation" -- i.e., they
sit in incubation position for days before the first egg is laid. Of
course egg dates are difficult to obtain without the use of a nest-
camera like Randall Bishop has had in previous years at the Noggins
Farm location at Greenwich. I didn't notice a camera set up there
today.

I also saw 2 adult bald eagles at Saxon St. Pond and 3 more adults
south of the Canning Aboiteau.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
