The Common Gallinule was atop a Bull Rush today when I arrived at the parking area of the daycare (drying off in the sunshine maybe?). That's the 1st time I have ever seen it anywhere above the vegetation floor or in the water. I would not have thought those long toes would be able to wrap around a bull rush or the stalk but the bird looked very stable. It appeared active and alert and actually flew a little ways. Was actively coming in to look for its food and was quite aggressive towards any duck that got in its way too, flying at them or jumping on their backs! Figure that kind of behavior is a good thing.

Sincerely,

Gayle MacLean
