Jan 13, 2012 I visited Vogel this morning at 10:00 - 11:00 and he was very active feeding and swimming at the outfall from the storm drain near the daycare center. Judging by his activity, Vogel sure does not appear to be in any distress. He was in company with the American Coot (unnamed yet?) and several mallards. The coot jabbed at him a couple of times but otherwise they appear to be getting along and sharing the provided food. During my time there, I noticed that the coot has a preference for the lettuce while Vogel seems to prefer the seeds and frozen salmon bits - at least it looked like it was salmon bits. Anyway, Vogel does not seem to like the lettuce as he picks it up and then drops it again. He feeds for awhile on the shore then swims around the rushes and reeds and I thus assume he is still looking for his "normal" food. I uploaded a few pictures of Vogel and the coot to my online gallery. I also included a few of the Barrow's Goldeneye that is back a Dartmouth Cove again this morning. He's hanging out with the Common Goldeneyes and a few Greater? Scaup. http://scranlocker.smugmug.com/Nature/Nature-2012/20920971_TjK84m Paul Murray Dartmouth
