Andy and Lelia Dean 86 Baden Powell Drive Kentville, N.S. (902) 678-6243 ----- Original Message -----=20 From: James W. Wolford=20 To: NatureNS=20 Sent: Tuesday, January 10, 2012 1:51 AM Subject: [NatureNS] B. oriole, red-bellied woodpeckers, etc., = Wolfville area JAN. 7, 2012 - On our neighborhood walk Pat & I saw about 25 waxwings, = and, from their relative silence to my ears, I guessed they were cedar = waxwings? We also heard a woodpecker drumming, which was a surprise -- perhaps a = downy woodpecker? (unseen). At our home feeders a junco was about 2 metres high to feed on a bird = pie, which is unusual. Sheila McCurdy in east Wolfville had a Baltimore oriole visit/revisit? = her feeders this morning. A similar oriole was seen back in late = December there, but then Sheila has been away after that. Meanwhile, = further east in Wolfville, Brenda & Bill Thexton have not seen either of = their two Baltimore orioles since about 10 days ago, when the bright one = (imm. male?) was last seen.=20 JAN. 8, 2012 - A male flicker turned up at our feeders (a female has = been regular there), and I saw 3 cardinals there today (a male & 2 = females). JAN. 9, 2012 - Sheila McCurdy in Wolfville just off Sherwood Ave. on = Dale reports her male Baltimore oriole looked glorious in the Sun today = (and was seen also on Jan. 7). The two orioles that were in east-end = Wolfville at two different feeders have not been seen for at least 10 = days.=20 Sheila and Earl Young, the renown bird-carvers at Grand Pre along the = road north to the historic park, report that their female red-bellied = woodpecker is still in their neighbourhood, despite the Youngs' absence = and empty feeders after about Dec. 22 and until their very recent = return. This is one of at least four red-bellieds seen on Dec. 17 = during the Wolfville Xmas Count.=20 Cheers from Jim in Wolfville. ------=_NextPart_000_0021_01CCCF87.07B2BA70 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-1" = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META name=3DGENERATOR content=3D"MSHTML 8.00.6001.19170"> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY=20 style=3D"WORD-WRAP: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; = -webkit-line-break: after-white-space"=20 bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial>We also had a downy drumming here = yesterday=20 Jim.....I was surprised too....must be the mild weather.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial>Andy and Lelia Dean<BR>86 Baden Powell = Drive<BR>Kentville,=20 N.S.<BR>(902) 678-6243<BR></FONT></DIV> <BLOCKQUOTE=20 style=3D"BORDER-LEFT: #000000 2px solid; PADDING-LEFT: 5px; = PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; MARGIN-LEFT: 5px; MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"=20 dir=3Dltr> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial">----- Original Message ----- </DIV> <DIV=20 style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial; BACKGROUND: #e4e4e4; font-color: = black"><B>From:</B>=20 <A title=3Djimwolford@eastlink.ca = href=3D"mailto:jimwolford@eastlink.ca">James W.=20 Wolford</A> </DIV> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial"><B>To:</B> <A = title=3Dnaturens@chebucto.ns.ca=20 href=3D"mailto:naturens@chebucto.ns.ca">NatureNS</A> </DIV> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial"><B>Sent:</B> Tuesday, January 10, 2012 = 1:51=20 AM</DIV> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial"><B>Subject:</B> [NatureNS] B. oriole,=20 red-bellied woodpeckers, etc., Wolfville area</DIV> <DIV><BR></DIV> <DIV style=3D"MARGIN: 0px"><FONT style=3D"FONT: 12px Helvetica" = size=3D3=20 face=3DHelvetica><B>JAN. 7, 2012</B> - On our neighborhood walk Pat = & I saw=20 about 25 waxwings, and, from their relative silence to my ears, I = guessed they=20 were<B> cedar waxwings</B>?</FONT></DIV> <DIV style=3D"MARGIN: 0px; MIN-HEIGHT: 14px; FONT: 12px = Helvetica"><BR></DIV> <DIV style=3D"MARGIN: 0px"><FONT style=3D"FONT: 12px Helvetica" = size=3D3=20 face=3DHelvetica>We also heard a <B>woodpecker drumming</B>, which was = a=20 surprise -- perhaps a downy woodpecker?
