--Apple-Mail-43--384646499 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed DEC. 29, 2011 - After yesterday's balmy but windy and rainy conditions, today is back to winter at -5 C. and snowing with new snow on the ground. At our feeders in Wolfville, 4 different cardinals seen, including 1 male and 3 females (seen all at once). Also a female flicker looking for the bird pie (which was taken by a raccoon last night and has not been replaced yet. And add small numbers of goldfinches, juncos, white-throated sparrows, song sparrow, blue jays, chickadees, and mourning doves. JANUARY 2, 2012 - One juvenile great blue heron seen in the river by the Legion in Canning. No ducks seen other than the many mallards and about 10 black ducks. Saxon St. Pond held perhaps 40 mallards and a few black ducks. Perched in a tree there were 4 bald eagles (3 adults, 1 imm.), and another adult eagle was flying. Everywhere I drove today in the Canning/Sheffield Mills/Canard areas there were bald eagles in flight -- I saw a total of perhaps 20 during 40 minutes of driving about. JAN. 4, 2011 -- Very cold today, with temperatures -10 to -8 C. plus strong cold winds from the west. At our feeders, a female flicker again was going at the bird-pie. JAN. 5, 2012 - The female flicker was back at the bird-pie, and later she was on the lawn digging into the sod for something (ants?). Also our yard was visited by at least 6 robins this morning. At 3 p.m. I saw the Wolfville mockingbird in its usual "hangout" in the "bamboo" or Japanese knotweeds along the RR tracks near the wharf park pavilion. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville. --Apple-Mail-43--384646499 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/html; charset=US-ASCII <html><body style=3D"word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; = -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "> <div style=3D"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; = margin-left: 0px; "><font face=3D"Helvetica" size=3D"3" style=3D"font: = 12.0px Helvetica"><b>DEC. 29, 2011</b> - After yesterday's balmy but = windy and rainy conditions, today is back to winter at -5 C. and snowing = with new snow on the ground.
