Hi all
Charlie Kendell and I spent a few hours on Big I. today ( Dec. 4) which had moderate-strong east-north winds. We noted 2 Harp Seals one on mud on the inner bay by the east corner of the causeway which looked sick and another travelling down the middle of the causeway which seemed healthy and was gone when we left. I don't think I have noted harp Seals myself on Big I. before.

We noted 35 species of birds- most unseasonable was a Northern Parula which Charlie was able to get a documentary photo. This was found near the Mason driveways on the west end of the island. We also saw an Orange-crowned Warbler with a flock of Goldfinches just east of Wharf Rd. An adult Black-headed Gull was hunting the salt ponds in the big salt marsh. There were 2 male Northern Pintail in the cove by the wharf. I was able to get a better look at the Eider flock I saw the day before and the count was ~ 100 birds. I was not in a position last night to see the whole flock at Kings Head on the other side of Merigomish Hbr. There was a single Black-bellied Plover and 2 Sanderlings at the west end of the island.

Below is my Ebird submission
cheers
