All: Brief walks on Hartlen Pt's harbourside beach and the Rainbow Haven PP circuit produced little of interest in birds. About 28 Canada Geese on the HP golf course and a like number of Dunlin (+ 1 smaller "peep") at a great distance RHPP were the largest groups of birds seen, save starlings. I was struck by the absence of sparrows at HP beach and the RH dunes. Also, despite the largest crop of Bayberry (Myrica pensylvanica) I've ever seen at RH, there were no "Myrtle" Warblers. Bayberrys on beaches were devastated by hurricane salt in recent years, but seems to have fully recovered. Are the birds still scattered on the open landscapes in coastal regions? When will the public read signs in PPs stating "keep dogs on leash?" Of the hundreds of dog walkers I've seen over the years at RH PP (2 couples with 2 dogs each today) and Conrad Beach, I've only seen a handful with their dogs on leashes. No big deal at this season, although one dog today was running through the dune grass stirring up anything that might be there. Cheers, Ian Ian McLaren
