Certainly Fundy Gypsum has an obligation to help with the reclamation. = I would hope that they were required to post a bond. Perhaps they have = already done some of the reclamation work. I remember seeing a episode of "The Nature of = Things" where Dr. Suzuki spoke to a group of workers from the Alberta = Tar Sands. The workers realized that they were participating in = destroying the environment but also were torn between providing for = their families, especially folks from Atlantic Canada who went out there = to work. I thought that perhaps a group can be formed to look at the Fundy = Gypsum site to see if it can be reclaimed and made into a "garden" site = like what was done at the Limestone quarry in Victoria, BC. Burchart = Gardens is a huge tourist draw for the Island. Perhaps doing something = like this would help. No one will need to cash in RRSP's or take out = 2nd mortage-a not for profit group can apply for a proposal development = grant, do a feasibility study, a tourist business plan for the garden, = planting, etc. I'm thinking is there an NGO or perhaps the Ecological = Action Centre here in Halifax can provide the intermediate lead on this = project. Who knows we may even get some support from Fundy Gypsum to help start = the reclamation of the site. Your thought please. Tuma Young Halifax, NS Koqwaqja'tekaq'tinej. Economy is what keeps us housed = and fed and I always feel so darn sorry for those who lose their jobs.
