All: Just received this message from Ron D'Entremont. I will put a photo on NS-RBA photos later. I have asked that the specimen be kept for the NS Museum Nat.Hist. Somethin's happened out there - cf. frigatebird on Seal Island last Saturday. Cheers, Ian Ian McLaren ----- Forwarded message from rondentremont@gmail.com ----- Date: Sat, 29 Oct 2011 19:00:21 -0300 From: Ronnie D'Entremont <rondentremont@gmail.com> Subject: Brown Booby Cape Sable To: iamclar@dal.ca Hi. There was a report from two ladies 2 days ago of a strange bird seen on Cape Sable. Their description was vague, so Sharron and I decided to investigate. We were ferried to the island by Leslie Smith in his skiff. We worked our way to where it was last seen and lo and behold, Sharron found it, but unfortunately, it had perished either last night in the cold, or the day before. Looking at the bird I knew it was a Booby, but what kind? After a quick call to Johnny, we positively identified it as a Juvenile Brown Booby. We were understandably disappointed to not have found the bird alive, but nevertheless excited with the find. It is in our freezer now. Apparently sightings of this species are rare in this province. I have attached two photos of the bird. Two questions: 1. How many sightings of this species in Nova Scotia, and 2.What should I do with it? Cheers, Ron Dentremont and Sharron Marlor. ----- End forwarded message -----
