OCT. 14, 2011 - I checked Wolfville Harbour at 3:30 p.m., a bit after
high tide, for roosting shorebirds along the railroad tracks, and I
found 10 greater yellowlegs, 1 probable lesser yellowlegs (appeared
smaller and was not with the greaters), and 1 spotted sandpiper.

Two ravens were perched atop the Railtown building and calling
frequently for attention?

And a local naturalist, Gisela Westphalen, told me she has been
seeing a single crow in a group of 5-6 that shows a very strange beak
with the upper mandible pointing upward away from the lower. One has
to wonder how the crow manages to forage, but then we have all heard
about similar phenomena with other species having individuals with
disabilities.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
