Jean Hartley told me that she saw a lot of diving ducks, most likely Ring-necked Ducks, on the Frog Pond in Fleming Park, Jollimore, yesterday. Tempted by the previously-mentioned reports of Yellow-billed Cuckoos in the area, I decided to poke around Jollimore on this beautiful morning. First I walked the towpath along the North West Arm and up into Jollimore Village. Then I walked around the Frog Pond, where I counted thirty Ring-necked Ducks. I have never seen so many here before. Unfortunately I did not find any noteworthy landbirds in my walks. It seems to be a very good year both for Mountain Ash berries and for Canada Holly berries - there are many shrubs in the area laden with fruit. This should promise well for future birding, but I didn't see a single Robin or other bird eating them this morning. Patricia L. Chalmers Halifax
