--000e0cd48d989c532504aeb49ced Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 I had a chance to pop up to Malignant Cove on the afternoon of the 5th during the storm surge that hit much of NE NS and Cape Breton. I didn't have the numbers or diversity that Dennis Garratt had at the Canso Causeway, but it was still enjoyable to see a few seabirds over land. Fri. Sept. 30 - Malignant Cove 1 American Pipit 1 Merlin Tues. Oct. 4 - My yard in Maryvale 1 Hermit Thrush Wed. Oct. 5 - Malignant Cove 3 Storm-Petrels (at least one of which was a Leach's) 10+ Black-legged Kittiwakes 1 Pomarine Jaeger I will certainly be heading to the Northumberland coast again during future storm surge, time permitting. The observation is tricky; I had to sit down to be stable enough to use binoculars, which were almost immediately covered with rain or seafoam. I had brought my scope, but hardly used it. I actually found I was better able to look inland at things blowing in over my head, rather than try to point into the precipitation and wind (although I undoubtedly missed things offshore). -- Bruce Stevens Maryvale, NS --000e0cd48d989c532504aeb49ced Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I had a chance to pop up to Malignant Cove on the afternoon of the 5th duri= ng the storm surge that hit much of NE NS and Cape Breton.
