Some years ago I watched one feeding on Alternate-leaved Dogwood (Cornus alternifolia) berries for 15 minutes or so while I was also having lunch. It used a slick manoeuvre to get from one cluster of berries to the next; a backward dive followed almost at once by a climb to another perch. Slow motion photography would have helped. In good light it has an abundance of flowers and fruits; vigorously worked by Bumble Bees and Pileated Woodpeckers respectively. Real high! In the woods there is a Virginia Creeper ( Parthenocissus quinquefolia ). Bright today with the dark skies. The reds to purple were spectular. There seems to be some variation as to if its a native or introduced. Roland says introduced but the USDA www site says its native to North Americia. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
