Ten days This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --Boundary_(ID_+QQ94GCxwHqZB8fitslMAg) Content-type: text/plain; CHARSET=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Thanks Helene and Lance, They are still feeding as of this morning. Henk Kwindt ----- Original Message ----- From: Lance Laviolette To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2011 4:38 PM Subject: RE: [NatureNS] chickadees still feeding young? Hi Henk and Helene, It is very late however, this year everything appears to be about one week later than usual and I find that the birds that nest in Nova Scotia on offshore islands or along the coast are the last to do so anyways. Ten days ago Golden-crowned Kinglets and Black-throated Green Warblers were still feeding their young on Brier Island for example. Given this very late date, this is probably a second nesting, rare but not unheard of in Black-capped Chickadees. All the best, Lance From: naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca [mailto:naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca] On Behalf Of Helene Van Doninck Sent: September-19-11 9:44 PM To: naturens@chebucto.ns.ca Subject: Re: [NatureNS] chickadees still feeding young? Hi Henk, it is pretty late for chickadees to be feeding babies, we usually get them that young in July and Aug. Assuming that they are feeding a brood (they do carry food in), isn't this extremely late in the season? Any comments appreciated.
