Hi all
I birded Big I. yesterday (Sept. 18) morning to early afternoon when I =
met Liz and Ann Doull just as I was finishing up. I note they were able =
to find some shorebirds that I was not able to locate. Merlin was likely =
moving the birds around a bit. There were a large number of Gannets =
(275) off the west end of the Strait side of the causeway to the island =
which seem to disappear for the most part by afternoon. There were 6 =
American Pipits along the rocks by the causeway, but I also heard them =
along the dune area and also the west sandpit on the island. I managed =
to see my first Red-necked Grebe of the fall. It was fully in basic =
plumage with no red neck at all. Common Loons continue in numbers all =
round the island but no Red-throats yet. Birds moving in numbers today =
include Savannah and Swamp Sparrows as well as Blue-headed Vireos and I =
encountered a few small flocks of mixed warblers. Some birds must have =
been fooled into thinking it was spring with the cool weather of the =
night. I heard 4 drumming Ruffed Grouse, (one strutted across Docker Rd =
with fully ruffed neck feathers), singing Brown Creeper, Ruby-crowned =
Kinglet and both Vireos.=20

I have pasted my ebird submission below. Sorry about the length, but the =
birding was pretty decent!

I saw 20-30 Cabbage Whites and a couple of Clouded? Sulphurs which =
evaded a close look. I did manage to photograph an American Lady on =
Docker Rd.=20
