Sunday =0Amorning, Sept.= 1, to check on the progress of the herring run and the wildlife =0Ait attr= acts annually this time of year. The large concentration of wildlife was = =0Ajust beyond the reef at the bar at the lighthouse end of the island. The= re were =0Aabout 300+ Gray Seals, 200+ Double-breasted Cormorants, 700 Bona= pate's Gulls, =0Aseveral hundred Herring and Ring-billed Gulls and a small = number of Great =0ABlack-backed Gulls. There were about 20 Common Terns, an= d at least 5 Bald Eagles =0Aover the feeding birds. The Northern Gannets we= re a bit more =0Adistant, but by far the most nummerous species present. Th= ey were moving around =0Athe area just west of Pictou I.=A0=0AIt was somewh= at difficult to count, but I estimate =0Aat least3000 were present. Many we= re sitting on the water, but =0Athere was also a large cloud in the air wit= h 100's diving at any moment. At one =0Amoment we saw a smallish whale pass= through the area as well.
