Hi all

Recently, I sent out an email inviting any interested birder to go on a
pelagic watch trip on Sunday, Spt 11th. Ten people including two Americans
have signed up. We would like to have five more. Yes, 15 people this
time. If we get 15, we will pay just 40 dollars.

We found a charter boat, which will provide chum up to 50-100 pounds. This
one is based in Sambro and operated by a harbour master. We can go far
beyond 25 km. There will be seats on the boat. Plenty of parking there.

According to one American birder, chum mixed with popcorn works like a
charm so please bring some! More details from David Currie.

If interested, please contact me at edoull@ns.sympatico.ca

Recently, I wanted to go on a whale watch trip close to home so I checked
out some in Halifax. I ended up picking AM Cruises because of my friend
Robert Lange who incidently photographed a Manx shearwater on Monday,
Sept 5, 2011. That got the ball rolling.

Albert and Mary Conrod, the owners of the AM cruises / Eastern Passage
confirmed that a pelagic trip can be organized, I contacted David Currie to
work together to expediate the negotations with the Conrods.

Ian McLaren, David Currie and I have decided to pick Sunday, September 11th
and requested a five-hour trip. According to the Conrods, each hour is
150 dollars so that brings up to a total of $ 750. If we get 20 birders
registered,
then the cost goes down to 45 dollars (tax included) per person. If
successful,
we can do another one at a later date. We are still working on how to get
buckets
of chum to attract birds. I know it is a very short notice....

It is come first, first served. We need to know how many by Saturday,
Sept 10th.
The trip begins on Sunday, Sept. 11, 0800. The return is 1300.

We will go 25 kilometres from land, which should bring in good results.
There will be seats for people to sit and look around.

Good news. NO shark fishing or whale watching. If a sunfish, whale or
dolphin comes by,
that will be a bonus!

Please let us know if you are interested. Please contact me at
lizbirder@ymail.com

thanks

 Liz Doull
