Merlins look small, maybe a bit bigger than blue jays while Peregrines are bigger than crows. It helps when crows are around to compare sizes. Hope it helps. Liz I saw a distinctive bird silhouette yesterday as we were driving east on route 7. It seems pretty close to the pictures here, which is a peregrine. But this is highly unlikely, no? Could it have been a merlin? I noticed the sharp, hard-edged and angled wing shape.
