Late this afternoon on this windy, humid, overcast day, there was a sudden flurry of activity at the birdbath in my parents' garden in Bedford. I was taking a break from supper preparations and happened to look out at just the right time to see a lively mixed flock of warblers tentatively approaching through the evergreen hedge that forms a backdrop to the birdbath. They gradually got bolder and edged out the Song Sparrow and a few Chickadees. At one point my mother and I were delighted to see at least five warblers in, on and around the birdbath at once, representing five different species. The action lasted less than ten minutes, before they moved on as suddenly as they came, but in that time we saw : Nashville Warbler 1 Northern Parula 2 Magnolia Warbler 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler 1-2 Black-throated Green Warbler 2-3 Blackburnian Warbler 1 American Redstart 1 Wilson's Warbler 1 as well as a very yellow vireo, not seen well enough to ID... There are still hummingbirds coming to the feeder. All of the ones I saw today were immatures or females. Cheers, Patricia L. Chalmers Halifax
