To: all

From: John Sollows on Wyman Road, south of Yarmouth

Date: Aug. 14/11

In previous years, male hummers showed up at out feeders in the spring, did
their thing, and disappeared some time in June, after which we saw mainly
females and young.

This year, we have seen only males at the feeders until the past week. Now,
we have both red and white throats making use of the stuff.

A couple of weeks ago, I finally did see some females, when I dumped some
"garbage" in our compost pile. They seemed to like the profusion of
touch-me-nots benefiting from the compost. It was strange, though, that
they were not visiting the feeders.

The change in visitation pattern is interesting, as would be figuring out
the cause.
