OK...so what does common milkweed look like? I bought asclepias at my
local greenhouse, specifically for attracting the monarchs....would like
to know what the natural milkweed looks like.
Thanks!

The Monarchs at our place (Cambridge, Kings Co) are late this year. We
were afraid there would be no young this year. Yesterday we observed the
first eggs on our milkweed. It was only a few days ago that I first saw
two Monarchs flitting over our field. Up until that time we have seen
one off and on since early June.

As observed in previous years there is a preference for them to lay on
the very young milkweed less than 30 cm tall. So far we have collected
about 10 eggs to raise inside.

In my travels around our area, the common milkweed is in many vacant
areas and fields. It has been in flower for a couple of weeks and its
very sweet scent permeates these areas.

Has anyone else observed laying?

Larry Bogan
