Swift Report on the Sangster Bridge farmhouse at Upper Falmouth, Hants =
County - Sunday 24 July 2011
Forecast sunset at 20:58. 18C, No wind, 10% cloud on horizon only.=20
=20
Arrived at 8:20pm, lots of bugs everywhere, Barn and Tree Swallows =
feeding.

8:37 first 5 swifts arrive and circle
8:40 - single bird enters chimney - one LEAVES at 8:43 ! Is this nesting =
behavior, they have bred here before?
8:50 - after an excellent funnel display, 16 swifts go into chimney
8:53 - 10 enter. I suddenly realize that they are using two different =
flues at opposite ends of this large combination chimney. I haven't seen =
that before. Some that I thought were doing a "near miss" fly by are =
actually going in. How many have I missed?
8:56 - one bird in
9:00 - A group of 9, then one solo bird
9:03 - a bird flies OUT of the chimney!
9:05 - group of 9, then 6 more
9:08 and 9:12 - solo birds
9:13 - 3 dive in after lots of circles
9:20pm - couldn't see to write notes and I left.

I am sure that my numbers are on the low side of those actually using =
the chimney.=20
