Dear Tuna, we have Arethusa orchids in Nova Scotia not calypsos and we found one out at
Hartlin Point, Eastern Passage this afternoon. Also one can find Calapogon (Grass Pink) in
bloom too and the very tiny Malaxis orchid. The purple fringed orchids, Platanthera psycodes,
are just coming up and will bloom in about two weeks.
Ram's Head are long gone as they are generally May bloomers. As for the Showys, better
hurry to see them in Smileys park as this heat will finish them off. Oh yes the Yellows should
be finished too.
The large purple fringed orchid will be in bloom in about a week if not sooner and that can be
found at Shubie park.
Hope this helps.. I can be reached at 423-7032 if you need to discuss any of the locations.

    Hi Folks:

Nick and I are trying something different. We would like to get some pictures of orchids. Now I know
that bogs around Peggy's cove have grass pinks, dragon's mouths, and perhaps some calypso's but I
wanted to know where I can find Showy Lady Slippers and possibly Ram's head lady slippers. Are
they in bloom now and if so where can we find them. I know a spot in Cape Breton for the showy's
(along with the small Yellow-lady's, and for the purple, green, white fringed and coral plus the
rattlesnake plantain) but not on the mainland. Is there a place where the ram's head and showy are
within a reasonable driving of Halifax.

I would appreciate any help in this matter.

    Tuma Young

    Koqwaqja'tekaq'tinej.
