All: It's not often that we can match the shorebird extravaganzas of Cape Sable Is., but at near low-tide this a.m. (10:15) there were about 445 dowitchers with about 40 yellowlegs (both species) at "Shorebird Cove" near 3-Fathom Hbr. Susann Myers reported a Ruff recently there, with directions. The light was very poor as the birds were all facing me into the wind and away from the high overhead sun, so photos were not much good. But I felt that a good fraction were of subspecies hendersoni from w. of Ontario. And there may have been a few adult-plumaged Long-billed, but I wouldn't swear to it. A few on poor images seem very long-billed, but side-view shape features not available. Recently there has been pretty good (25 knots) westerly flow from the prairies across s. Canada at 859 mb - a good height for migrant shorebirds. It's certainly the largest throng of dowitchers I've seen there, and worth more study in study in better light. Cheers, KIan Ian McLaren
