July 5, 2011 - speaking of nesting owls this year, and just for the
record for the Bird Society records,

Pam Matthews showed me photos of a successful nesting of GREAT HORNED
OWLS there this past Spring. The nest platform was in a big but
bushy planted pine very close to Belcher St. in their front yard at
Port Williams. And that platform blew down in a big wind when the
two baby owls were pretty small and weak. Pam called Bernard
Forsythe for assistance, and at the time one youngster seemed very
weak and a probable mortality; but both youngsters were successfully
raised by their parents to full size and real fledging and dispersal.

I reported the final result above to Bernard, and he wonders if these
great horned owls might be the same pair that nested recently for a
few years at Noggins Farm woods at Greenwich and, further back in
time, nested at the Muttarts' house near Prescott House on Starr's
Point?
