All boxes are in Kings County. Most are Bernard's own but several were put up by other folks & Bernard just bands the young owls. He worked with 18 boxes this year. Eleven boxes produced 15 young owls that fledged. There would have been somewhat more eggs in total because the 8 boxes that he followed closely produced a total of 17 eggs. The other 3 boxes that produced young were not monitored in the egg stage. Adults visited 7 boxes where eggs were never produced. In 2010 Bernard recorded 36 fledged young, so 2011 is down for Barred Owls also, while not a failure to any serious degree. -- Rick Whitman --20cf3040ee5c1c685e04a73223c3 Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Bernard has written a full report for the BNS Newsletter but I thought a br= ief report (with Bernard's agreement) might be of interest here.
