Index of Subjects Several Showy Lady's Slippers are blooming in Acadia's Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens. Many others are in bud. They are not yet in bloom, and there are only a few buds, which are still white, so it will be awhile. Looks like the usual time of around July 1 will be about right, There was another wildflower which I didn't know in bloom in the same area as the Lady's Slippers. They were about 2 ft. tall, with small globular flower heads in a combination of yellow and purple - most unusual. Sepals reddish purple, short petals inside sepals yellow, sometimes with purple veins. I guess it must be Purple Avens or Old Man's Whisker's (Geum triflorum), but the leaves didn't look quite like the illustrations in my books. I have some pictures I could send, if anyone would like to have a look at them and identify them. > > Lois Codling >
