Over the past few weeks I've been out audio recording Hermit Thrush for
research in the Blue Mtn area near Halifax, and around the Terence Bay
wilderness area (access from Brookside). A few interesting observations:

Olive-sided Flycatcher last night in a clear-cut adjacent near the logging
road that is part of the Blue Mtn trail.
Several Nighthawks flying overhead last night on the Blue Mtn trail.
Canada Warbler this morning on a footpath near the end of Brookside Road
(close to Moosehorn Lake).

I've heard Saw-whets on the Blue Mtn trail on several nights (just after
dusk), and a Great Horned Owl early one morning. There is also a pair of
Barred Owls near the end of Brookside Rd, heard before even getting on the
trails into the wilderness area.

Lots of the typical birds in both areas, too. Blue Mtn has loads of
Ovenbirds, Black-throated Green, Black and White, Magnolia, etc...
The boreal area near Brookside has a bit of a different mix, but lots of the
same, as you might expect. This morning we heard Least Flycatcher, Winter
Wren, Boreal Chickadee, etc...

Hermit Thrush, the focus of my efforts, are quite common in Blue Mtn, and
maybe not as densely packed in the Terence Bay Wilderness area close to
Brookside.

I have several pairs of Purple Finches around my yard in Brookside as well
(maybe three pairs). They makes lots of noise all day long, and I saw one of
the males doing its mating dance/ritual the other day--pretty entertaining!
