These events will be a great way to get up to speed on how to contribute to the Atlas, and you will learn a lot about butterflies along the way! Details on the events are below: Where: Rockwood Park, Saint John, NB (Meet at the Interpretation Centre) Date: June 11, 2011 Time: 10:00AM-2:00PM Description: Join Jim Edsall for a brief overview of atlas project, followed by a survey of the park's various habitats. You will learn how to make a voucher specimen, how to photograph butterflies for the Atlas, and how to fill out data sheets. If you have atlas equipment from previous presentations or workshops bring it along. Kits will be available to anyone else who would like to participate (participation is free, though a $20 donation for each kit is encouraged). The workshop starts at 10:00 AM at the Rockwood Park Interpretation Centre (parking is available behind the building). The outing will end at approximately 2:00 PM. Bring a lunch and appropriate clothing for a day outside. The event will go ahead only if the forecast is for warm sunny weather. Please check with Rockwood Park ((506) 658-2829 or (506) 658-2883) on Friday, June 10 to find out if the event is going ahead. To register for the event please call Rockwood Park at (506) 650-3763. Where: Cape Breton, between Louisbourg and Main-a-Dieu (Meet at Sydney and Louisbourg) Date: June 18, 2011 Time: For those coming from Sydney area: Meet at 9:30AM at the Sydney River Shopping Centre parking lot, near Tim Horton's (there are three Tim's within 1 km, this is the old one). Description: Join John Klymko and Jim Edsall for a peatland butterfly outing. Bog and fen habitats between Louisbourg and Main-a-Dieu will be explored, and a rare species such as Jutta Arctic may be encountered.
