Yesterday, while at the Kings County Airport (Waterville), I heard a killdeer and looked for it on the roof of a hanger, only to find a starling. While watching it, it gave another bird call that was familiar but not starling. At the time I did not identify that second call. Later, near the same spot, I was watching two starlings and one gave the distinctive descending call of a Veery not just once but twice, then before flying away, gave the call of a Blue Jay. This is the first time I have personally encountered this mimicry in a Starling. I am astounded, that a single starling might have such an ability of singing. It is possible that these two starlings were the same one and this bird would have a repertoire of at least four bird calls. Larry Bogan Cambridge, N.S.
