Last night I got out to investigate the Owl/Snipe.
when I got to the field on the other side of the woods it was clear
that there were at least three separate birds and that they were indeed
Wilson's Snipe. I timed the interval between when a call ended and the
next started. The average interval was 6 - 9 seconds. I was timing the
bird closest to us but sometimes it was hard to separate the calls. We
did not see and birds against the sky as the marshy field area was to
our east.
I hope to see them before the season is over but for now I will be
happy with the other owls.
Thank you to everyone who contributed so many hints for identifying
this bird, unseen.
