Just for the record, since we have a long record of partial-albino
red-tailed hawks in eastern King's County (and I saw one once near
Digby or Annapolis along Hwy. 101):

MAY 24, 2011 - Today in the main office of the Wildlife Division of
N.S. Dept. of Natural Resources in Kentville, I noticed an eye-
catching mounted partial-albino red-tailed hawk. When I inquired
about it, luckily they had a bit of information on the specimen:

The bird was found dead on March 10, 2006 on a roadside, and was
presumed to be a roadkill via a vehicle. Location not given, and the
receptionist in the office said it was somewhere in King's County,
but it was retrieved or given to Jenny Costelo, then a wildlife
technician for DNR in the Waverley office, HRM.

A permit for the mounting was given or obtained, and then taxidermist
Jim Gardin did a wall-mount (2006) which is quite nice, but mounted a
bit too high on the office wall to easily see the dark markings on
the mostly-all-white hawk.

The hawk's head had a lot of dark markings, and two of the tail
feathers (not central but near-central) showed conspicuous
longitudinal dark markings (half of each feather on one side of the
vane was dark, symmetrically so for the pair of feathers). There
were also scattered small dark splotches on the wings and shoulders.

The Kentville Wildlife office of DNR is on the 3rd floor of the
Provincial Building on Exhibition Street. We naturalists in the
Wolfville area are very fortunate to have this office and its staff
of biologists and technicians so near to us.
