This was my first check this year of the old farmhouse at Sangster =
Bridge, Upper Falmouth. The owner Cheryl Rutledge joined me and we =
watched the swifts together.

I arrived at 8.22pm for a projected sunset at 8.43. It was relatively =
warm by recent standards, about 17C, with a light breeze of 10K from the =
SW. I noticed that this does not conform with the recorded conditions =
from Windsor or Kentville - there must be local variations. Cloud cover =
about 70%.

Spring peepers and red wing blackbirds were both very loud and got =
louder as the sky darkened. The long-time resident SORA called a few =
time from the pond. Both Tree and Barn Swallows are present on the =
property in good numbers.

The first 4 Swifts arrived at 8.40pm, very high
It became obvious that this would not be a bumper night, at 8.55 we =
still had only 10 going by.=20
10 entered abruptly at 8.58 with no fuss and no warning, Cheryl tells me =
that the same thing occurred last night. 2 more dived in a minute later =
and it was all over.

At 9.00 there was a ceremonial fly-past right over the house by 2 Canada =
Geese that seemed to mark the end of the festivities.

Cheryl tells me that last night, May 17th, there were 30+ birds. She =
says they often keep her awake at night with their movements inside the =
chimney. They have apparently only been here for about the last week.
