This morning I found a group of 130 Red-necked Grebes, all in full or nearly full breeding
plumage in the cove at the tip of the Blanche Peninsula, Shelburne Co. With them were 6
Horned Grebes, also in breeding plumage. All were foraging close to shore, some of them in
the littoral seaweeds as the tide fell.

Migrants were few and far between today, but the coastal Shelburne Co. forests were full of
the songs of Myrtle Warblers and Hermit Thrushes, and occasional songs from White-
throated Sparrows and Purple Finches.

The only other bird of note was a male Long-tailed Duck (Oldsquaw) in alternate (breeding
plumage) in Blueberry Bay, West Berlin, Queen's Co.
