--0016e6d77df606870704a218a2c1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Hi, Non-birders keep reporting a goose that's been hanging around the Miner's Marsh trail in Kentville for the last 2 months or so, looking it up in books, and coming to the conclusion that it's a White-fronted. It seems to have got onto both NatureNS and NS-RBA as such. There is however a large gray goose that's about the size of a Canada, with a large rather dome-shaped head, a big orange bill, some white markings on the breast and that superficially looks like a White-fronted. I'm not sure where it's DNA comes from, but I presume it's probably some kind of barnyard escape. Most barnyard geese are genetically Graylags. Some people have suggested feeding it as they feel sorry for it - I have tried to discourage them. I have photos. I suppose it's possible that there is a real White-fronted there somewhere as well. At least it shows that there are people out there who have an interest in bird ID and who notice things that are unusual - long may it be encouraged!
