A Big Island local informed me that there was a whale that was stranded on
Big Island this morning and again tonight (April 27, 2011). It was at the
hairpin turn (east end) - when you turn around towards the beach. The
locals got him headed back down the harbour yesterday morning, but he came
back tonight and was closer to shore and the tide going out. Firemen finally
got him aboard a 4 wheeler and trailer and took him across the causeway and
released him in the ocean and was last seen heading to PEI. It is either a
minke or fin whale as it has a good-sized dorsal fin.
