The subject of FRACKING was well covered on Thursday's Maritime Noon on CBC Radio One, and then again on Friday's show with more reactions to the first show. Fracking concerns shale natural gas and is the process used to get the methane to the surface by injecting at high pressure a mixture of water and sediments and chemicals to create and enlarge cracks in the shale. Several of the calls on the call-in, one in particular by Geoffrey May, who I think is Elizabeth May's brother, sounded very knowledgeable and gave me the impression that anyone who claims that fracking has been and can be done safely probably has a financial interest in it. Apparently some fracking has already been done in New Brunswick (Elgin?), and there is definite interest in Nova Scotia, although the industry people claim there's nothing going on yet. And the Nat. Resources or Environment politicians and bureaucrats will say it is being studied and nothing will be done until they are reassured it can and will be done safely. Ho, ho, ho.... Let's all check this documentary tomorrow at noon on CBC-TV's Land and Sea and find out more about it. And also check out the Web site for Maritime Noon, cbc.ca/maritimenoon/ to find the links and check out those two programs. Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
