Jim Wolford or anyone:
I've just now had a note from a colleague in Cambridge Univ, UK, that
there's an upcoming inauguration of something in 10 days time on April
23 2011, at the Joggins Fossil Museum. (Perhaps it's the official
opening of the museum itself?). I don't recall seeing any
notification of this recently on this list but may have missed it, so
perhaps if anyone knows more about it they could post the details,
because some here might be interested to attend. It would be good to
have a list of the associated lectures, or a web site that discloses
these (I haven't checked for this yet).

My informant's connection was that he resides in the same Cambridge
department as his famous colleague paleontologist Jenny Clack, who
wears a number of hats but is well known for her studies of fossils at
the transition between fishes and land vertebrates, tetrapods. She
wrote a book in this area `Gaining ground: the origin and evolution of
tetrapods' in 2002. For more info on her research, expeditions etc.,
see:
http://www.theclacks.org.uk/jac/index.html

Apparently Professor Clack is scheduled to give one of the lectures at
the Joggins inauguration, so is visiting there on 23 April (not sure
yet of her exact dates). She has said that she would be keenly
interested to visit the Blue Beach site near Hantsport, one of two
fossil horizons in the world that has material exposed in the time
window in which she's interested. Could someone on the list please
let me know as to who would likely be the best person for her to
connect with, to arrange for her to visit Blue Beach itself and
probably the museum, probably Friday April 22 or Sunday 24 (I'm
guessing the dates)? I'm assuming there may be a professional or
amateur fossil experts associated with museum there or somewhere else,
but need a couple of names, and 10 days is fairly short notice. Low
tide at Hantsport is 11:46 AM on 23 April, and 1.3 m height.
Any suggestions, either on or off list?
Thanks,
Steve, Halifax
