It was relatively calm, clear night but alas a little quiet. At stop # 3, an owl clipped a tree close to the vehicle near the end of the survey. A little prompting after the count showed it to be a Barred Owl and once primed, a second one joined in.( the econd one not countable). Stop 3 and 4 had a couple of Wood Frogs at each. At stop 6, we had a distant Saw-whet and stop 9 had 2 Barred Owls. We had one Woodcock on each of the 5 last stops. Other wise a Porcupine, an unidentified call ( possibly a Saw-whet), a fly-over Whistler (Goldeneye) at stop 3 and 2 shooting stars rounded off the evening. Temperature was 10C starting and went as low as 1C. As Richard noted, maybe it still is too early to do the route. Last year we had 21 owls on the route. It was run a few days later, but it was a much warmer spring last year. No peepers were heard although I heard peepers in 3 places in the afternoon ( Ponds, Big I. and Saint Pauls) when it was quite warm. I alos had Wood Frogs in the afternoon at Saint Pauls. cheers Ken --Boundary_(ID_KCqXbeBvU+/cVfjkaymvXg) Content-type: text/html; CHARSET=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META name=GENERATOR content="MSHTML 8.00.6001.19019"> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Ken McKenna<BR>Box 218 Stellarton NS<BR>B0K 1S0<BR>902 752-7644<BR></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hi all</DIV> <DIV>Rick Ferguson, Charlie Kendell and I ran the Lorne to Sheephers Junction Nocturnal Owl Survey route tonight (April 10).
