Nice video, Blake. I was also curious to look in the related video column at a Fox Sparrow scratching in slow motion. From it it is clear that that bird was not scratching from front to back, which is what I assumed Fox Sparrows did when I observed them in the past, but rather the feet are moved outwards to kick material aside. If you look carefully at Blake's video, you'll see that his bird is making the same movements. Makes sense if you want to expose goodies under the head (eye and bill), instead of kicking them to the rear. Cheers, Ian Ian McLaren
