The Fox Sparrow allowed me to get quite close today - if only I had had
the camera instead of an armful of bird seed! And he sang so
beautifully for me as well. There was also an Am. Tree Sparrow here
today looking for food. Two Black Ducks came to the feeder by the
"tangle" just before dark. A Robin which I had heard several times
during the day finally showed himself in the afternoon looking for worms
on a South-facing slope. A pair of Red-br. Nuthatches are coming
regularly to the peanut-feeder, and the White-br. Nuthatches have become
less often seen (nesting further away?). There were 7 Mourning Doves
today. I found the feathers of one just below our deck about a week
ago. Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers, at least 2 pr. of Bluejays, Song,
White-throated, and House Sparrows, many Juncos, a few Goldfinch,
B.C.Chickadees, Crows, Starlings, Rock Pigeons and Ring-necked Pheasants
are all regulars. Today there were only 7 Comm. Redpolls, but yesterday
there were about 40. No Siskins today, though some days there are a
few. Saw an adult Bald Eagle on Tues, a Comm. Grackle on Weds., a Br.
Creeper on Thurs. That's it for this week!
