Hi folks,

I encourage everyone to go to the CBC website where the story is posted:

estry-hall-fame.html

Sign up to post comments (it takes about 30 seconds), and post your =20
thoughts. Below is what I wrote in response to the story.

Cheers!

Chris

Abruptly excluding Bob Bancroft from induction into the Nova Scotia =20
forestry Hall of Fame is a terrible black mark on the Registered =20
Professional Foresters Association. Bancroft is a highly respected =20
biologist retired from 28 years service with the province's Department =20=

of Natural Resources, a 2007 Woodlot Owner of the Year laureate, the =20
recipient of the Atlantic Society of Fish and Wildlife Biologists =20
Merit Award, an expert in river restoration, and a respected =20
broadcaster. To yank the carpet out from under Bancroft because of his =20=

outspoken advocacy on behalf of sustainable forest management =20
reflects extremely poorly on the Foresters Association. Shame on them =20=

for their poor judgement. The Registered Professional Foresters =20
Association Code of Ethics says (in part) that they are responsible to:

   (a) Advocate and practice good stewardship of forest land based on =20=

sound ecological principles in order to meet the objectives of the =20
owner without compromising the opportunities for present and future =20
generations in the use and value of the forest to society;
   (c) Provide factual and accurate information to advance public =20
knowledge and understanding of forest policies, the practice of =20
forestry and it=92s function in society;
   (d) Maintain high standards of conduct in daily work and strive to =20=

raise the standards of practice;
   (e) Work in a spirit of integrity, honour, fairness, good faith and =20=

courtesy;

This action calls into question their commitment to all of these =20
principles.
