Hi all
Yesterday, Feb. 27, Charlie Kendell and I birded Sober I., HRM. There were 20 HARLEQUIN present as well as 50 PURPLE SANDPIPERS including "Old Whitey"
an unique plumaged sandpiper with white wings and black head and breast that has been wintering in this location for many years now. Great Cormorants seen
had white flank patches and a Black Guillemot just east of Sheet Harbour was in breeding plumage although all others seen were still in winter plumage. Two
male Ring-necked Pheasants on Sober I. were in wing-wing combat.
We had a quick look at Sheet Harbour on the way back and as we pished out a group of 20 BC Chickadees, we noted 2 PINE WARBLERS with them, one bright
yellow and one quite subdued in colour. This was along the road to the campground along the East River.
cheers
Ken
