THANKS to Ian M. & Tom K. & Jeannie S. for comments and photos of
harp seals -- we all need to hone our skills at identifying seals of
the various species and ages -- quite a challenge, but we have a lot
of experience and expertise in our midst -- thanks to Ian for
continually tutoring us to especially examine any seals hauled out on
ice, which is what harp seals particularly are prone to do, as are
female grey seals in pupping season on land-fast ice -- and check
numerous field guides for the spotted young harp seals -- at Avonport
we even had a very young hooded seal ("blueback") in early April a
couple of decades ago, discovered only by myself recognizing someone
else's photo months afterward. I thin Seal Island has also had
ringed seals and bearded seals plus hooded, harp, etc. from the Arctic.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville
