Hi Folks:

Nick and I were up in Cape Breton this weekend and meet up with the Murrants for
some birding. We did not realize that the CB Bird Society was having a field
trip-we ran into a fella at the Reserve Mines Tim's who told us. It would be
nice to join up. I will check the website for upcoming field trips more
regularly. However, here are the birds we saw:

Port Morien:

Common Redpolls (20) (one of which had no tail-interesting).
American Goldfinch (20)
White Winged Crossbills (half a dozen)
Snow Buntings (50+)
American Robin (1)
Blue Jays (10)
Juncos (4-5)
Bald Eagle (2)
Starlings ( 5)
Black-capped Chickadees (numerous-30+)

Glace Bay Harbour

Greater Scaups (numerous 50+) (photos)
Lesser Scaups (I'm not sure-having a hard time with telling them apart from the
Greater-know that they have a rounded head, higher neck, etc but still need more
practice in telling them apart).
Common Merganser (3) (photos)
Red-breasted Merganser(1)(photos)
Tufted Duck (1) (photo/lifer)
Bufflehead (10) (photos)
Long-tailed Duck (10) (photos)
Black Scoter (1) (lifer)
Iceland Gull (2)
Herring Gulls (10+)
Redhead (1)

Mallards (10)

Schooner Pond

Black-backed Gulls (5+)
Iceland Gull (2)
Glaucous Gull (1)
Turkey Vulture (1) (photo lifer)
American Crows (5)

Port Hood:
