Index of Subjects A few of you have noted that on occasion you do not receive your own posts within a reasonable amount of time. Mostly, this is not the fault of the Chebucto server. In the recent cases that Don and James have mentioned, the rest of us did receive their posts, so it could well have something to do with ISPs rather than the system. When messages are bounced, I get to see them and sometimes can figure out why. The most common reason is that some of you have more than one e-mail address but are subscribed to this list with only one of them. If you use another address that Majordomo doesn't recognize, your message will get bounced. If you attach a photo to your message and it takes up more than 40 KB, it will get bounced (I think this mostly happens by mistake). If your e-mail program adds those annoying winmail<dot>dat files to your messages, they will probably get bounced. Other than that, a few simple rules: don't use the word "test" or "help" in the subject line; don't include a URL with the php extension; don't allow any "click*here"s in your message body. You can always check the archives to see if your messages have come through: <http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Environment/FNSN/MList/> I should mention one other reason for my getting bounce notices: if your mailbox fills up or something corrupts your e-mail address, your ISP will reject posts from NatureNS. Whenever this goes on for more than a week I just remove the offending address. In that case, it's up to you to resubscribe when you have things sorted out. On the whole, things work pretty well here. If you commonly have late or missing messages but others are receiving them, check with your ISP (Eastlink, for one, has been known to cause problems). Meanwhile, enjoy nature. Doug -- Doug Linzey Administrator, NatureNS e-mail list naturens-owner@chebucto.ns.ca
